SHIT HAPPENS (2006)

For his wall-text painting, SHIT HAPPENS, Kennedy covered the walls of the CANADA gallery from floor to celling with this phrase written in a series of home paint colours with vague and naive Middle Eastern names such as "Persian Gulf", "Persian Green" and "Arabian Night". Additionally, certain square shapes in the text, done in Kennedy's adaptation of Superstar Shadow, were painted to evoke the vertically stripped medal ribbons awarded to the U.S. Military for duty served in the Global War on Terror and for service in Iraq, specifically the Expeditionary, Service and Commemorative Medals, and the Iraq Campaign Medal and Operation Iraqi Freedom Commemorative Medal.

SHIT HAPPENS was exhibited for SHIT HAPPENS / In Search of the Miraculous, Continued…, a two-person exhibition with Joanna Malinowska at CANADA (NYC) from Apr 29 – Jun 4, 2006.
