Seizures & Seized (1991)

Seizures and Seized are a duo of artist books which are part of Kennedy's larger body of works centring workplace and administrative power dynamics.

In 1991, Kennedy was gifted a large collection of Saturday Evening Post, Collier’s and The New Yorker magazine's from which he began pulling cartoons that took place in the boss’ office. For Seizures, he re-printed a selection of these boss's office cartoons with all the art removed from their walls. He then printed just the boss' lifted paintings in Seized.

Originally self-published in 1991, both books were later republished by Art Metropole (Toronto) in 1997.

Following the books, Kennedy made an edition of nine Seized prints (1991), enlarging the paintings from the boss' office back into 38"x38" hangable artworks. Kennedy also continued Seizures by creating a limited edition wallpaper (1993/96) made from the silhouettes of office workers taken from promotional material of a business consulting firm advertising workplace conflict resolution training.
