Figures (1997)

Figures lists the income of 100 of Canada's best paid CEOs, as reported in the Toronto Globe and Mail's Report on Business (April 12/97). The figures include basic salaries, bonuses, other compensation, and stock options.

Publicly traded companies are required to make public figures on the income of their CEOs and top four execu- tives. Not included are CEOS and executives of private companies whose incomes are secret.

The Globe article also included photos of Carolyn Egan, health care worker (1996 earnings: $31,000, a figure which represented one year's pay for the average Canadian employee), along with Laurent Beaudoin, CEO Bombardier Inc., No. 1 at $19.1 million 627 years of pay for the average Canadian employee" (Figures, 105).
