GOD! (2013)
In 2013, Kennedy was invited to do a window-well work for Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts (Winnipeg). Kennedy developed GOD! at a period when he was thinking around conflicts stemming from differenced in religious beliefs, and more specifically religion's role in socio-political tensions between North America and the Middle East (see Kennedy's Ethics 101 series, including AN EYE FOR AN EYE (2005), THE COLOURS OF CITIZEN ARAR (2007), and QUID PRO QUO (2012)). Through his conceptual practice, Kennedy was taking the temperature of religious anxieties and offering a critique of the problematic associative leap between religious dedication and fanaticism or extremism.
Exhibited as an outdoor installation from September 3 - October 31, 2013, GOD! equally presents an expression of exasperation or disbelief, as an exclamation of praise. The work was installed at street level and back lit at night, creating a light box effect.
In 2014, Kennedy created a limited edition of 10 18''X18'' serigraph prints with Malaspina Printmakers using the same mock up drawing.
